Bose SoundSport Wireless in-ear headphones released

by Stephen Charlton2016/06/07

Bose have released their new SoundSport wireless headphones, which feature redesigned versions of the StayHear+ Sport earbuds featured on the older wired edition. The new model is priced at $150 USD. The company have also announced the SoundSport Pulse wireless headphones, which are due for release in September and are priced at $200. The price of the older base SoundSport model has been cut by $30 to $99.95. The SoundSport wireless features a lithium-ion battery which has six hours of charge and volume-optimised EQ to provide balanced performance at any volume. The headphones can be paired via Bluetooth and NFC, while the Bose Connect app helps users manage their paired devices.

The eartip design is a notable departure from the tips on the earlier SoundSport model. The wired model has earbuds that sit on the curve of the ear, with a silicone cover that directs the music into the ear canal. The new model is more of an earphone design, which seals within the ear canal. The change brings the new model closer to the other in-ear headphones offered by Bose, and should also offer greater passive noise isolation. The comfortable silicone wings Bose are known for return with the new version, and they should keep the earpieces firmly in place.

The SoundSport Wireless has an inline remote to take calls, control volume and skip or pause tracks. The remote is integrated into the short cable which connects the two earpieces together. The earphones are sweat and weather-resistant and are currently available in black or aqua. They ship with three sizes of StayHear+ tips, a USB charging cable and a soft carry case with an attached carabiner.

To complement the new model, Bose have also released the SoundSport charging case. The $49.95 case has a built-in battery that allows up to 18 hours of extended listening time. It also protects your headphones as they charge. The case can add an hour of battery life from a 15-minute charge. Like the earphones, the case reaches full charge in two hours. With a headphone that has a battery life of six hours or so, I definitely find myself being caught out sometimes. The case could be a handy extra!

SoundSport Pulse adds heart rate sensor

The Bose SoundSport Pulse wireless headphones are an in-ear edition with a Built-in heart rate sensor. The model, which is due out in September, is otherwise quite similar to the SoundSport Wireless. The Pulse’s heart rate sensor allows you to track your workout and is compatible with fitness apps like MapMyRun, Runkeeper, Endomondo and others. The model’s battery life is five hours, which is an hour less than the normal wireless model. Pre-order details will be released in the coming months by Bose.

The company have also recently released the noise-cancelling QuietComfort 35 wireless over-ear headphones and announced the Bose QuietControl 30. The latter is due in September and offers noise-cancellation technology in a wireless in-ear headphone format.
