MPOW has a range of budget Bluetooth devices which are available worldwide through online outlets. Today we’re looking at MPOW Flame Sport Bluetooth Earphones, which are inspired by the Powerbeats design. The Flame Sport has an IPX7 waterproof rating, 7-9 hours playtime and costs $20 USD (£18.29, $26.99 AUD). Want to step up your spending? Go on then, try the Sennheiser Momentum Free review.
Simple design and specs
The MPOW Flame Sport is a pretty simple set of Bluetooth earphones. The flexible hooks around the earpieces keep them firmly in place for exercise. Adding to the sports features is the IPX7 water proof rating, which allows the earphones to be immersed in water up to a depth of 1m for 30 minutes. The earphones charge to one hour’s playtime in 10 minutes, while the full charge will be reached in 90 minutes.
Big bass sound
MPOW gave the Flame Sport a big bass push, along with a treble bump. The mids however are quite noticeably recessed. Listening to The 1975’s dance pop hit Love It If We Made It, the bassline becomes the most prominent feature in the mix, while Matty’s tenor vocals are also brought forward. In contrast, the mid-heavy guitar parts are pushed back noticeably. The bass is highly present in every track I played through the earphones, but it’s not as tight as I’d like it to be. Overall the Flame Sport performs pretty much how you’d expect a $20 pair of earphones to perform.
MPOW don’t skimp on accessories
The MPOW Flame Sport has a solid selection of accessories for the price. They are: A hardshell case, five eartip options, a rubber cable clip and a 32cm USB A to Micro B USB charging cable. The hardshell case is tough and will protect your earphones even on a hectic commute. The eartip options are four sizes of rubber tips as well as one pair of memory foam eartips. The charging cable is 32cm, which is on the shorter side, but it’s only to be expected at this price range.
Comfort and looks
The Flame Sport looks great. The Powerbeats vibe is a classic that doesn’t go out of style, and is functional to boot. I’m a big fan of the hooks, as they keep the earphones in place even during vigorous workouts. The hooks are comfortable, although the plastic earpieces can rub against your ears during long lessons. The design is easy to wear for an hour or two, but after that it does start to become a drag.
Not the most durable Bluetooth earphones
Durability is not the Flame Sport’s strongest suit. The Bluetooth earphones are made of plastic and rubber, and the design should weather the usual daily wear and tear. If you forget to put the earphones in the case and let them sit in the bottom of your bag for a day or two though, I wouldn’t hold high hopes about them surviving the experience.
MPOW have provided the Flame Sport with an IPX7 waterproof rating, which means they can be immersed in 1m of water for 30 minutes. We gave the Flame Sport a thorough soaking in our video test above and they came out without any damage, so they are a good bet for surviving a sweaty workout.
The MPOW Flame Sport Bluetooth Earphones verdict
The MPOW Flame Sport Bluetooth Earphones are a solid budget buy at $20. The IPX7 water-proofing and earhooks make them a smart choice as a sports headphone. The audio quality and comfort is fair but doesn’t branch out beyond what you’d expect for the price-range. In conclusion, if you are keen on an affordable set of Bluetooth Earphones for your workout sessions, these will do the trick.
