We have a pair of Momentum in-ear headphones to review that look very stylish and are affordable in price. Lets see what Sennheiser have modified this time round! Be aware of the Momentum Free Wireless review if you are looking for the latest in the series.
Sennheiser are plentiful with accessories
The in-ear Momentum comes in a small box that includes your earphones, a carry case and two pairs of ear-tips. The earphones have a nice long cable extending up to 1.5 meters which feels very thin, yet it also feels quite durable at first touch. Obviously, the cable is resistant to tangling because of the elliptical cable shape. The cable itself is coloured half red and half black; there is no other colour available. Being tangle-free does actually keep the two ear pieces from tangling among each other, but as always one can expect to have an occasional knot to take care of.
The earphones come in a nice little compact, zip-up type case with a cradle inside it. The case is deep black with leather texture and a red stitch along the rectangular periphery. We can surely say that the carry case that comes with the Momentum earphones is of higher quality than most other cases.
The in-ear Momentums come with a right angled, 4 pole 3.5mm jack that should practically fit inside any audio jack of any device. You will also find an in-line microphone with 3 button remote control for play/pause and volume control. While, the audio controls are handled differently by Android and iOS, Sennheiser has two different models of the same earphone that make this in-line remote control compatible with two kinds of devices on the market. The in-line module is quite strong and sturdy. It would definitely live up to the bends and twists it might have to undergo throughout its working life.
Design suited for all
The ear buds themselves are glossy in appearance and tilted by approximately 15 degrees from their main body. I noticed the ear pieces are very curvy; there is a small cable supporting ring that will not go unnoticed by any eye. The ear pieces are created from stainless steel which extends all the way up to the ear canals. The rugged build will keep itself in one piece for a long time to come.
Unlike most other headphones which put emphasis on bass, the Momentum earphones boost the higher frequency region of the audio band. Thus, the earphones sound quite bright, however that does not mean the bass performance is below par. Any sub-bass music will play just fine and you will feel that thumping in your ears. The mids are vibrant with the higher end of the mids being quite sharp. But considering the modern music, the brightness and sharpness are welcomed by most users which add to that the excellent bass performance.
These earphones will easily put the instruments in the background and the vocals on the front. You will be able to hear these two components of any music and also be able to distinguish them apart. It allows the listener to put special focus on vocals if he desires so while feeling the rhythm of the instruments that play along with the vocals. To summarize, music heard with the Momentum in-ears will feel like a beautiful vocal and instrumental harmony unlike many other earphones that portray music on a flat single sound stage.
Distortion free sound
The Momentums produce amazing, distortion free sound even at high volumes. A great thing if you like to listen to your music at high decibels. Drivers usually saturate at high volumes and heavily distort the treble and in turn distorting the bass, but not in case of the Momentum IEM. The specifications say that there is less than 0.5% distortion at 100dB sound pressure level, which is great.
While commuting, one can encounter noisy environments and that is when you will praise the quite good isolation offered by the Momentum in-ear headphones. You can choose any one of the ear tips provided with the package and make sure they are comfortable. It is important that they fit correctly in your ears in order to have good isolation.
You can also choose to have even more comfortable ear tips that we have reviewed in the past.
The Momentum in-ear earphones offer great performance for everyday use. You can confidently say that these are probably the first earphones that come with treble boosting while also delivering great bass response. If you are an audiophile expecting to have a natural audio response, then turn away from buying this. The Momentum in-ear earphones are excellent choice for listeners looking for earphones that will increase their street swag and also deliver good audio.
