Imagine Dragons – Making it big in the Alternative Rock
One band which was hard to miss this year is Imagine Dragons. The electrifying alternative rock band hails from Las Vegas, Nevada and made it to the mainstream music industry after the release of their album Night Visions at the end of last year.
Imagine Dragons comprises of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. They grouped up to release a couple of EPs in 2010 called “Imagine Dragons EP” and “Hell and Silence EP” and “It’s Time” in 2011. It’s Time became the song for the longest run on 2012 Alternative Top 10 charts and its video was also nominated for the “Best Rock Video” for the MTV Music Awards.
From the release of the EPs, there was no stopping for the band. The emerging star band signed a major deal with Interscope Records for releasing their debut album “Night Visions”. It was produced by academy award winner Alex Da Kid and as expected the album was welcomed by great acclamation selling more than 80,000 copies in the first week of its release. It peaked #2 on the Billboard 200 and made it to the top ten in the charts in Australia, UK, Canada and other European countries.
Imagine Dragons’ music has a dark element to it. According to the band they have been focusing on the emotional pain they have been through and channeling it into musical art. The band also loves experimenting with raw sounds and noises, their foot thumping and head banging beats are a surety of that.
“We like to create big sounds,” Reynolds says. “We like the guitars to sound big. We want the drums to sound like cannons.”
2013 has been all about the “Night Vision Tour” for Imagine Dragons. They travelled all over America and Europe to give their vast fan base unforgettable and exhilarating performances. The upcoming tours in North America have already sold out. Imagine Dragons have also been performing at various festivals this year including Rock am Ring and Leeds Music Festivals.
