LINKIN PARK x STEVE AOKI – A LIGHT THAT NEVER COMES
Upbeat music. Great collaboration.
12th September 2013 was the day when Linkin Park and Steve Aoki ended the wait for their highly anticipated new single “A Light That Never Comes”. Recently like many giants in the music industry Linkin Park also found a creative way to officially release their song. The fans have to play a 3D action-strategy game ‘LP Recharge’ on Facebook to unlock the studio version of the song which then becomes available for streaming on Xbox Music . A Light That Never Comes will also feature in Linkin Park’s upcoming album ‘Recharged’, releasing on 29th October.
LP’s band member Mike Shinoda himself assisted in designing the game. He said, “Making the song with Steve, premiering it through the Recharge Facebook game, and debuting it via Microsoft’s Xbox Music I think it’s all indicative of our band’s commitment to experimentation and pushing boundaries.”
Besides the known interests of the band in futurist art, music and technology as well as their innovative collaborations the song itself is being applauded by the majority but received criticism from those who still can’t get over Linkin Park’s initial style of music.
The band has been a pioneer in mixing rock with other genres like rap, pop, techno and even dubstep. Linkin Park and Steve Aoki fuse rock and electro into a great steady beat which will definitely acclaim its place repeatedly on-air and all club houses.
Conversely some fans have become tired of Shinoda’s monotonous way of rapping. The lyrics, as compared to other Linkin Park songs fail to leave a mark on the listener. People are weary of listening to the same clichéd lyrics over and over again – like “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” and “night gets darkest before the dawn”.
A Light That Never Comes would have been much more impressive and a bigger treat for Linkin Park’s fans if their ingenious 3D game “Recharge” and effective music launching strategy with Microsoft had complimented the song as well.
