Oasis’s Liam Gallagher returns with new LP, but it’s “not a solo career”

The biggest mouth in the business is back. Liam Gallagher is returning with a “10 or 11” track new album due out in 2017.

The former Oasis frontman said the current music scene is “fucking shit” in an interview with Q Magazine. His last project Beady Eye, which split in 2014, was shockingly average so maybe he could easily be talking about himself there.

Despite the new album, Liam said he is not “embarking on a solo ‘career’.”

Liam Gallagher on new album: “It ain’t Radiohead”

The new Liam Gallagher material is no Radiohead, but the Oxfordshire lads don’t seem to mind.

Don’t expect anything pretentious from the new album. The singer said the songs have:

“flair, attitude, the melodies are sick and the words are fucking funny. It’ll shock people… You won’t be scratching your chin. It’s not Pink Floyd and it ain’t Radiohead. It’s chin-out music.”

His new material will reportedly be out on Warner Bros. The songs still have to be recorded however:

“There are just 10, 11 songs I’ve written that are eligible to be recorded. It’s got all the right ingredients and sounds well tasty.”

Liam steps up to full writing duties on new album

This makes the album the first LP Liam wrote entirely himself. The vocalist had a number of credits in Oasis, although Noel was the primary writer. Liam also shared songwriting duties in Beady Eye with the guitarists Gem Archer and Andy Bell.

The new songs were recorded with “two lads”, one of whom is a multi-instrumentalist. Liam said the record has sparse arrangements, with the tracks usually having a single electric or acoustic guitar track, drum track and some keyboard. The band have already begun demoing songs.

The singer explained he wants to start a new chapter after experiencing a “crisis” following the split of Beady Eye. He said the recent upheaval benefitted his writing however.

“Music isn’t influenced by music, I don’t think. It’s influenced by life. To have good music you have to have an interesting, varied life.

“Shit music comes from boring lives. The reason why so much music is boring, no matter how many bells and whistles and strobes they stick on it, is because they have boring lives. My wonky life over the last few years is going to make for better music.”

The new recordings will be Liam’s first release since Beady Eye’s 2013 LP BE.

No Oasis reunion on the cards

The frontman downplayed Oasis reunion rumours with his brother Noel Gallagher, commenting:

“Do you think I want to be in a band with that cunt?”

Q Magazine probably should have known better than to ask, as only last month Liam made it clear on his Twitter, saying “no Oasis reunion”.

In a recently Sun interview he fired shots at Noel, laying into him for being mates with former rival Damon Albarn.

“Whatever next? Robbie Williams turning up on his next record? Noel lives in a £17 million house. That changes you. You have appropriate furniture, appropriate kitchens, appropriate red wine Bono’s recommended. And Damon Albarn becomes your mate.”

Oasis documentary Supersonic arrives in October

Oasis documentary Supersonic is on its way to theatres in October. Liam said he’s happy with the result, but couldn’t resist another dig at Noel:

“Just seen the trailer for oasis film I must say I do come across mighty fine super real unlike some people see you at the premiere LG x”

Somewhat bizarrely, Liam is launching a fashion line inspired by Jimi Hendrix. The AW16 Hendrix Collection will be sold in Pretty Green stores, which fashion outlets he launched in 2009. Hendrix’s sister Janie Hendrix is onboard with the project. Liam commented:

“Jimi Hendrix is an absolute force of nature. As well as him being the best guitarist ever, he’s also one of the greatest songwriters; his lyrics and his voice are equally as good, and his look is as out-there as his music. Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful.”

It seems Liam has his fingers in a number of pies at the moment. It’ll be interesting to see what he comes up with as a solo writer. Noel has made some great records as a solo performer, but he’s been writing a lot longer.
