Samson offer affordable podcasting solution with new Q2U mic pack
Podcasting and vlogging is bigger than ever and there’s a lot of demand for affordable solution for recording voice work. Samson have stepped up to the mark with the Q2U Recording and Podcasting Pack. The pack includes the Q2U dynamic microphone with both USB and XLR connections. It’s now available globally and costs $59.99 USD.
The Recording and Podcasting Pack is a new release, but the Q2U has been around for a while, so if you want to hear the mic in action it’s easy to check out on YouTube.
Versatile recording options in Q2U pack
Samson have prioritized versatility with the pack release. The 2.25m USB connection can be used for PCs, Macs and iPads, while the 3m XLR cable will make it easy to connect to mixers or audio interfaces. The handheld mic also ships with a mic clip, tripod stand and windshield.
The die-cast mic has a heavy gauge mesh grill, which will be useful for people who record on the go. The Q2U has a cardioid (unidirectional) polar pattern, which is designed to pick up sound from in front of the mic while rejecting noise from other sources. Given the mic’s intended application, that’s definitely a smart design choice.
While recording you can enjoy zero-latency monitoring via the 3.5mm stereo headphone output (with level control). The mic also is plug-and-play, so there’s no headaches with driver installation.
Podcasting pack changes
Unlike previous releases there’s no overear headphones included with this pack. Over-ear cans would be a useful inclusion for those who are new to recording, but anyone who has an existing set-up would surely have some lying around already. The previously included HP20 Headphones weren’t that impressive in any case.
Samson have also removed Cakewalk Music Creator from this Q2U pack release. The company still offer their Sound Deck Noise Cancellation Software (Mac OS X/Windows) for use with the mic. However it will set you back an additional $3.99 download if you want to use it. Anyone with an existing DAW set-up will likely be able to complete any editing requirements via their own program.
